Flexion-Distraction and Decompression

What is flexion-distraction?

Flexion-distraction is a therapeutic technique that is gentle and safe. This chiropractic treatment is painless, non-invasive, and can be a safe alternative to surgery. Most importantly, it is patient-focused, which allows the doctor to control the treatment so it can be best suited for your specific spinal needs!

This technique is non-surgical, doctor-controlled, hands on spinal manipulation performed with the patient lying face down on a special technologically advanced table. This table permits the effective administration of flexion-distraction and decompression adjustment and manipulation.

Well researched and documented, flexion-distraction and decompression helps relieve spinal pain and return patients to their desired quality of life by decreasing intradiscal pressure , widening the spinal canal foraminal area, reducing pressure on the spinal nerves and increasing normal mobility to the spinal joints.

The goal of flexion-distraction and decompression is to help the spinal pain patient go from "pain" to "no pain" as quickly as possible.

What conditions does it help treat?

Flexion-distraction is often used to treat people with a variety of different pain syndromes, that may have not responded to other treatment approaches.

These include:

  • disc issues ( disc herniation, slipped disc, and ruptured disc)

  • neck pain

  • low back pain

  • arm and leg pain

  • degenerative disc disease

  • pelvic pain

  • headaches

  • scoliosis

  • osteoporosis

  • subluxations

  • osteoarthritis

  • pregnancy back pain

  • whiplash injuries

  • loss of range of motion

How does it work?

Flexion-distraction is done by using a special table that allows the doctor to gently stretch and bend the back in various directions. All while adding pressure to different parts of the spine, therefore, allowing the doctor to concentrate on one vertebral motion segment at a time.

What is our primary goal?

Our goal is to help you go from “pain” to “no pain,” as quickly as possible, with at least 50% relief in 30 days. According to studies, 91% of patients are satisfied with flexion-distraction within 90 days. The European Spine Journal found in a comparison study of flexion-distraction care and medical conservative care of low back pain that, “Overall, flexion-distraction provided more pain relief than active exercise (the medical conservative approach).

What benefits should you expect?

Flexion-distraction improves circulation and relieves spinal nerve irritation, while restoring vertebral joints to their range of motion. It also improves posture and locomotion while relieving pain, improving body function, and creating an overall state of well-being.
