Dr. Schierer proudly served his country by joining the Pennsylvania Army National Guard, serving in Bradford, Pennsylvania’s 1/112th National Guard Infantry Division. Dr. Schierer was honorably discharged in July 2006.   

 

While enrolled at New York Chiropractic College, Dr. Schierer performed an advanced internship with Bethesda National Navy Medical Center where he had advanced study to include 480 hours of hospital-based chiropractic with rotations through general radiology, accumulating 50 hours of assisting in reading spinal and extremity fractures, dislocations, and disease processes, including MRI, CT, and bone scans. Neuro-radiology studies of 10 hours spinal and brain MRI and CT. Neurosurgery included 6 hours of observation including discectomy, laminectomy, and spinal fusion. Podiatry Dr. Schierer had 11 hours of shadowing and assisting with plantar fasciitis, Morton's neuroma, fracture cases, pre and post-surgical cases including bunionectomies, tarsal tunnel releases, and heel spur removals. Endocrinology included 15 hours viewing cases of hyperthyroidism, hypothyroidism, hyperparathyroidism and gigantism including blood labs. His orthopedic studies included 31 hours of observation in casting clinic, diagnosis and treatment, patient management. Additionally, Dr. Schierer had 7 hours observation of patient management in physical medicine, plus 5 hours of observation and patient management in cardiology. 

 

Dr. Schierer moved to Virginia Beach in 2007 and joined Kempsville Chiropractic for 2 years before branching off on his own to create Aligned Health Chiropractic in 2009.  Aligned Health Chiropractic merged with Sentara Health Care in 2017, starting the first pilot of Chiropractic care in Sentara outpatient rehab. Dr. Schierer joined Sentara leadership as the team coordinator of Sentara Chiropractic and Therapy in 2019.  As more chiropractors were added into the Sentara system Dr. Schierer transitioned into the role of Team Coordinator of Chiropractic Services in 2021.

Dr. Schierer plans to continue his education in the areas of Neurology. He continues his education every year, maintaining far more than the Virginia minimum of continuing education.  In addition to these interests, Dr. Schierer enjoys fly-fishing, hiking, camping, mountain biking, skiing, kayaking, soccer, weightlifting, carpentry, reading, and most of all spending time with his family. ​​
